Arshad Ali, the grandson of the sarangi maestro Padmashree Ustad Shakoor Khan, joined Sangeet Research Academy SRA at the age of four as a child prodigy. He became a scholar at SRA at the age of six. Born in the family of the Kirana Gharana musicians, he has been receiving extensive taleem from his maternal uncles, SRA Guru, Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan and Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan.

In the year 1993, at the age of nine, he was described as “the biggest sensation of Sawai Gandharva Sammelan” following his performance on a special invitation from Bharat-Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi on the occasion of his 75th birthday celebrations. Winner of numerous awards, Arshad has performed in many prestigious festivals in India and abroad such as Bhatkhande Sangeet Sammelan, Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan, Sawai Gandharva, ITC Sangeet Sammelan, Theatre de la Ville in Paris, the Trophen Theatre in Amsterdam, the Indo-Persian Festival of Music at Marseille and many more. Arshad has had several CD releases to his credit. Arshad continues his association with ITC-SRA as a musician-tutor.
